Dollar Store Stocks Outperform Nvidia Amid Economic Strain
Dollar Tree Inc. (NASDAQ: DLTR) and Dollar General Corp (NYSE: DG) have eclipsed Nvidia's stock performance in 2025, with gains of 60% and 75% year-to-date, respectively. The surge reflects broader economic pressures as consumers increasingly rely on discount retailers.
Contrary to expectations, over half of dollar store shoppers earn above $100,000 annually—a sign of middle-class financial strain. These retailers now serve as economic barometers, with their stock trajectories diverging sharply from tech giants like Nvidia, Meta, and Apple.
"We're seeing unprecedented demand across income brackets," noted Dollar Tree CEO Michael Creedon. The trend suggests investors are prioritizing recession-resistant equities over high-growth tech stocks as discretionary spending tightens.
